She made her debut as a child actress in Barney & Friends. Later on, in 2008, she was chosen to play the role of Mitchie in the Disney Channel Original Movie Camp Rock, which would be her big break. After the film's success among pre-teens, she signed to Hollywood Records and started working on her debut album, "Don't Forget", with the Jonas Brothers. It was released that same september. The following year, Disney gave Demi her own TV show, "Sonny with a Chance", which lead to the release of her second album, "Here We Go Again".
Despite her early success, Demi never had an easy life. Growing up, she experienced bullying, suffered from bulimia, depression, self-harming, addiction and even bipolarity. All of that led her to stay in rehab in 2011, putting her career on hold. Nevertheless, instead of beating herself down, Demi made the most of it by sharing her story with her fans. That way, she saved millions of lives by encouraging teenagers, stating that "the first step of recovery is admitting that you need help". Inspired by her personal issues, Demetria released her third album, "Unbroken" (my favorite).
One of its songs, "For The Love Of The Daughter", is dedicated to her biological dad, with whom she's never had a stable relationship since her parents divorced. After his sad passing in June 2013, Demi announced he was mentally ill, but despite his lack of affection towards her, she will always love him. His death was the reason she started the Lovato Treatment Scholarship Program, in his honor.
In 2012, she joined the judges of the X-factor, and helped put together a famous girls-band, Fifth Harmony. She thus released her self-titled album "Demi", that had amazing sales of 110K copies within the first week only.
Demetria is also a supporter of LGBT rights. She performed her song Really Don't Care at the LA Pride of 2014, where she filmed the video clip. In addition to that, she played the role of Dani in the hit TV show Glee (her character dated cheerleader Santana Lopez in the fifth season). Demi mentioned the couple in an interview, saying - "it's the story of two young women who fall in love; it's the most beautiful thing for me".
In 2014, she quit the X-factor in order to start her world-wide Neon Lights Tour, with Fifth Harmony as an opening act.
Demi is my role model and I find her music beautiful - one of my fave songs is Nightingale, which she wrote for her late best friend :( Her courage should be an inspiration for anyone who passes through a dark phase at any point of their lives.
