It tells the story of Truman, a man whose life, since he is born, is totally controlled by Christof, a movie producer who is making of Truman’s life a very successful TV show… until the day Truman realizes that all his life he has been manipulated by Christof. Here starts an exciting fight for freedom, Truman trying desperately to get freed from Christof’s control. Everyone sees in this movie a critic of the power of media, but it has in fact a more profound meaning. It actually shows why God (represented by Christof) cannot rule the world and control our lives or else we will all be like Truman. This movie shows perfectly why God is offering us total freedom, even with the risk that this might lead to a world of chaos and violence. This idea is well translated in the final scene where Christof gives the choice to Truman to either remain in the “perfect world he offers him” or to leave this perfect world for the free world where he might face chaos and violence. Guess which world Truman will prefer to choose?
